JT (Junior Tour) Tournaments

What is the Junior Tour?

The JT is an umbrella tour that provides a clear competitive pathway for aspiring tennis players. In 2012, the JT tournament structure will change, click here to read more about it. The JT tournaments offer Australian Ranking points across 5 levels, Platinum (also known as the Optus National Junior Championships), Gold, Silver, Bronze and White.

These tournaments offer points across the 12/u, 14/u and 16/u age groups, with select tournaments also offering points in the 18/u age group. In total, 211 tournaments across Australia will make up the Optus Junior Tour in 2012, giving all juniors the opportunity to obtain an Australian Ranking.

Types of JTs

The five levels of Junior Tour tournaments is as follows:

JT Platinum Series (National Junior Championships)

Each year Tennis Australia conducts National Junior Championships to assist the development of our high performance athletes. These tournaments are the pinnacle in competition for tennis athletes, and provide maximum Australian Ranking points in each age level. In 2012, the National Junior Championships will be spread throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

JT Gold Series

Across the Australian states in 2012 are a total of 31 tournaments that offer the highest amount of points outside the National Junior Championships. These are grouped as the JT Gold Series and are historically the major junior championships in each state. Across the country in 2012 there are eight Gold tournaments in NSW and VIC, six in QLD, three in each in SA and WA and for the first time in 2012 one each in the ACT, NT and TAS.

JT Silver Series

Across the Australian states and territories in 2012 are a total of 45 tournaments that offer the third highest amount of points on the Junior Tour. These are grouped as the JT Silver Series. Across the country in 2012 there are 14 Silver tournaments in NSW, 10 in VIC, 9 in QLD, 5 in SA, 4 in WA and one each in the ACT, Tasmania and the Nortern Territory.

JT Bronze Series

Across the Australian states and territories in 2012 are a total of 58 tournaments that offer the fourth highest amount of points on the Junior Tour. These are grouped as the JT Bronze Series. Recommended for athletes beginning the AR tournament circuit. Across the country in 2012 there are 17 Bronze tournaments in NSW, 9 in VIC, 10 in QLD, 6 in SA, 6 in WA, 4 in Tasmania, and 2 each in the ACT and Northern Territory.

JT White Series

Across the Australian states and territories in 2012 are a total of 62 tournaments that offer the lowest amount of points on the Junior Tour. These are grouped as the JT White Series. Recommended for athletes beginning the AR tournament circuit. Across the country in 2010 there are 17 White tournaments in NSW, 9 in VIC, 15 in QLD, 6 in SA, 7 in WA, 4 in Tasmania and 4 in the Northern Territory.
