Medibank Junior Development Series 2016

The Medibank Junior Development Series 2016 is an important program in the player development pathway on the Sunshine Coast. This series enables developing players to participate and compete in both singles and doubles. These tournaments are designed to introduce juniors into entry level tournaments.

Coordinated by the Sunshine Coast Regional Tennis Assembly, Tennis Queensland and proudly sponsored by Medibank, the series features ten tournaments stretching from Gympie to Caboolture.

Each event in the series features an 8/U Orange Ball Challenge which utlizes a 50% compression ball and 10/U Green Ball Challenge which uses 75% compression to maximise rally length, court craft, swing patterns and increase fun. All players receive a certificate of participation.

Other divisions include 11/U, 13/U, 15/U and 17/U. These players are eligible to compete in the Medibank JDS 2016 points race which is a key determinant in regional representation at the Junior Development Series Finals in Rockhampton in October and Queensland Junior Teams Carnival in December.

Age Requirements (VERY IMPORTANT): page1image10016

Please note that the 2016 JDS events are open to all male and female tennis players aged between 10-17 years old as at 31 December 2016. The series has a different age eligibility rule than Junior

Tour events. The reason for this is that the series does not finish until October, so players entering events in February-September must still be eligible to compete in the same age group if they make it through to the JDS State Final in October.

  • EXAMPLE CASE: A Sunshine Coast MJDS tournament is scheduled to take place on 11 March 2016. Is a player turning 14 years of age in May eligible to play in the 13/u event

  • DECISION: No, this player will be ineligible to enter the 13/u age group and must enter the 15/u age group as they will be over the age limit as at 31 December 2016
